What Is Visa?
Visa® is a registered trademark of Visa Inc. It is a global payments technology company that enables electronic fund transfers between consumers, merchants, financial institutions, and governments. It does not issue credit or debit cards directly; instead, it operates the network and infrastructure that processes and authorizes transactions made with Visa-branded cards.
When a consumer pays with a Visa card, its network securely routes the transaction between the cardholder’s bank and the merchant’s bank. This system ensures funds are transferred and settlements are completed efficiently and reliably at millions of locations around the world.
Visa’s role in the payment ecosystem is to provide a standard, trusted network that supports contactless payments, online payments, and in-store purchases. Its broad acceptance makes Visa one of the most widely used payment methods globally.
