Wallet
What Is a Wallet?
A crypto wallet is a digital tool that allows users to send, receive, and manage cryptocurrencies and tokens on a blockchain. Rather than storing the assets themselves, a wallet stores the private keys that prove ownership and authorize transactions. When a user initiates a transfer, the wallet uses the private key to sign the transaction, which is then recorded on the blockchain.
In 2026, wallets have evolved beyond simple apps or hardware devices into Smart Contract Wallets. While traditional wallets rely on a single, permanent private key that is lost forever if misplaced, modern smart wallets use "Account Abstraction" to turn your wallet into a programmable account. This allows for features that feel more like traditional banking, such as setting daily spending limits, whitelisting specific addresses for extra security, and social recovery, where you can regain access through trusted friends or secondary devices rather than a 12-word seed phrase.
Wallets exist in different formats. Some of the most well-known browser extension wallets are MetaMask and Phantom, popular hardware devices are Ledger Nano X and Trezor Safe 3, while in-demand smart contract wallets are Gnosis Safe and Argent.
Crypto wallets can be either custodial or non-custodial. In a non-custodial wallet, the user controls their private keys and is fully responsible for security and recovery. In a custodial wallet, a third-party provider manages the private keys on the user’s behalf, offering convenience, account recovery, and simplified access.
Because private keys determine control of funds, wallet type directly impacts responsibility and risk. Choosing between custodial and non-custodial setups depends on a user’s priorities around control, security, and usability.
KAST operates a custodial wallet model, securely managing private keys within its infrastructure so users can transact and spend digital assets without handling keys directly.
This approach separates long-term storage from working capital. While self-custody or "cold storage" is often preferred for assets you rarely touch, KAST is designed for the funds you want to spend, convert, or transfer without the friction of manual key management.
By handling the custody and security layers behind the scenes, KAST ensures that a simple mistake, like losing a backup phrase or a hardware device, doesn’t result in the permanent loss of your everyday spending money.
